The Backyard Habitat team creates a garden for ladybugs and painted lady butterflies at the Rose Scharlin Cooperative Nursery School in Los Angeles, one of a few remaining outdoor schools. These insect-eating bugs will keep the garden both pest-free and chemical-free, and the habitat itself will provide children with an immersive learning experience. Dave reveals which plants butterflies need to complete their transformation in your back yard, how a "caterpillar corral" will keep them safe from birds during their vulnerable pupal phase, and how to make an elegant mosaic water dish using tile, grout and a personal touch of creativity. Finally, they take a tour of the largest insect zoo on the West Coast.
