Flying Squirrels and Woodpeckers

large text
In this episode of Backyard Habitat, Molly and David help a family in Virginia bring flying squirrels and woodpeckers from the outdoors right up to their backdoor. While David installs feeding platforms, roosting boxes and water dishes, Molly visits the Long Branch Nature Center to find out how to distinguish between a gray squirrel and a Southern flying squirrel. Then, the Backyard Habitat team demonstrates how to make a nesting box for the squirrelly neighbors in your area and keep the kids busy by hand-painting terra-cotta water dishes. Finally, see what habitat essentials are necessary for the pileated woodpecker, a giant among woodpeckers at 15 inches tall.
