American Kestrel and the Northern Flicker
small text
large text
Molly and Dave are on their way to Camano Island to the home of Jane Cassady and Levon Yengoyan. There, they'll attract two birds common to Washington state: the American kestrel and the northern flicker. All it takes is a kestrel nesting box and a feeder for both birds; with these, the animals will have shelter, food and a place to raise their young. As for water, Molly and Dave add a small water spout from which the birds can drink. They also take a break to visit the president of the local raptor organization and see a kestrel up close. When the project is complete, Dave certifies the yard as an official habitat.
