Valerie Newman has been involved in animal welfare since 1998. Before joining the Arizona Humane Society, she was a veterinary technician. She's lived in Phoenix for 35 years and knows the community well.
Valerie enjoys being around animals all the time. She also finds it rewarding to see the perpetrators of animal cruelty arrested, convicted and punished. As any suspected animal abuser can attest, Val has no patience for people who harm animals in any way.
Valerie shares her life with her three dogs: Zeus, Shadow and little Abby, a five-pound miniature pinscher who was mauled by another dog. Valerie rescued Abby — and was instantly smitten.
"Although she wasn't terribly hurt, I provided foster care for her," says Valerie. "And she has been with me for almost two years. I have a real weakness for 'min pins'!"
Personal Interests
In her free time, Valerie enjoys reading and going shopping.
