Guy Bell joined the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) in 1992, and during his 13-year tenure with the organization, enjoyed carrying out technical rescues and training his fellow EAMTs.
His superb climbing skills certainly came in handy — and countless animals are lucky to be alive as a result. Guy can scale the tallest of trees or rappel down a mountainside to help an animal in distress. For this avid outdoorsman, it's all in a day's work.
One of his most incredible rescues involved a pigeon that was tangled in fishing line at the top of a 100-foot-tall palm tree! If Guy had not rescued the helpless bird, it would have suffered and died from heat or starvation.
Guy is the proud "parent" of a dog named Crissy and a cat named Jetta.
In December 2005, he left the AHS to pursue a career as an animal control officer.
What are your thoughts on animal cruelty?
"Until I came to AHS, I didn't think animal cruelty was a huge problem. I've seen things I wish weren't real. A person taking their anger out on animals is downright unacceptable. Being a part of the solution and protecting animals is what made my job so rewarding."
