Cheri Roth has been involved in animal welfare since 2000, and became an EAMT in 2004.
For Cheri, animal cruelty hits close to home. Her own dog, Ralphie, survived severe neglect and abuse. Abandoned by its first owner, Ralphie was emaciated and severely dehydrated when it first arrived at the Arizona Humane Society.
After being in foster care with Cheri for two months, Ralphie was placed up for adoption and found a new home on its first day back at the shelter. Shockingly, two weeks later a fellow Arizona Humane Society EAMT rescued a "stray dog" with severe chemical burn injuries to its feet.
To Cheri's disbelief, it was Ralphie. The dog's Arizona Humane Society tag had been removed and it had no microchip. No one ever claimed the dog. Cheri decided to give Ralphie the lifelong, responsible home it so desperately needed and truly deserved. Now, the two are inseparable.
What motivates you to work as an EAMT?
"I like being able to go out and treat animals in the field, bring them back to our hospital, and see them become healthy again. It feels great to know I'm part of the reason that these animals get a second chance at a life they deserve."
