Animal Planet Heroes: Phoenix

type size: [A] [A] [A]

Animal Planet and the Arizona Humane Society have teamed up for the newest animal welfare reality series, styled after the ever-popular Animal Precinct and Animal Cops shows in New York, Houston and other major U.S. cities. Animal Planet Heroes: Phoenix follows the work of the Arizona Humane Society's team of emergency animal medical technicians (EAMTs) in their mission to rescue sick, injured and abused animals.

The Arizona Humane Society's 17 EAMTs cover an area of over 9,000 square miles. They are trained to give immediate, on-the-spot care to animals wherever they may be found. They drive fully equipped animal ambulances, some of them set up as mobile emergency rooms.

The EAMTs are backed up by a dedicated team of veterinarians and technicians at the Second Chance Animal Hospital™. Located at the society's Sunnyslope facility, this fast-paced trauma center treats an average of 5,000 animal patients per year — patients who are injured, abused, sick, neglected or otherwise traumatized and would have no other hope for receiving much-needed medical attention.

Together, they rescue over 10,000 animals per year from all sorts of situations: road accidents, forest fires, sinkholes, as well as people who abuse or neglect their animals. Animal Planet's cameras go with them in this exciting new series — premiering in 2006 with 15 episodes — as each day brings something new and unexpected.
