Emergency Vet: Dr. Jason Wheeler
Animal: Cody
Dog fights can quickly turn vicious. But Cody's run-in with neighboring Rottweilers marks a new level of damage for Dr. Jason Wheeler to treat. The blue heeler's trachea is nearly torn in half, he has air trapped in his chest and his leg is broken. The damage and threat of future attacks are too much for the dog's owners. They consider euthanasia, but Dr. Wheeler thinks Cody deserves another chance. The owners relinquish ownership, and Dr. Wheeler agrees to find the 6-year-old a new home.
Fixing Cody's fractured radius gives this aspiring surgeon a chance to hone his skills. And when he chooses to adopt the dog himself, Dr. Wheeler finds it difficult to be his own pet's vet.
Cody's recovery is long, but with the help of a Frisbee, it is easy for owner and pet to catch on.
