Q: On Your Favorite Shark
Dear Mark,
Hi, my name is Ciarra. I live in Missouri, and I attend the school Pioneer Ridge Sixth Grade Center. I just wanted to tell you that I have studied great white sharks since I was a little girl. Great whites have always been my favorite type of shark. The question I wanted to ask you was: What is your favorite type of shark and why is that your favorite shark?
That's a difficult question for me. There are so many different varieties of sharks, and each species is uniquely special and interesting in its own right, that you could spend your entire life just trying to look at them all, much less study them all, and still only see a small fraction of what's swimming out there. But I guess if I had to choose, I'd say I have two families of sharks that fascinate me the most: the mackerel sharks (family: Lamnidae) and the cat sharks (family: Scyliorhinidae). The cat sharks are small, beautifully marked sharks, and if there were such a thing as "friendly sharks," these guys would be the goodwill ambassadors of the shark world!
