Magellanic Penguin
Magellanic (Spheniscus magellanicus)
Group: Banded
Other group members: Humboldt, Galapagos, African
Distribution: All banded penguins reside in warmer climates. The Magellanic, the largest of these, live mostly along the Atlantic coast of Argentina, around Cape Hope and along the coast of Chile. The Magellanic has been known to migrate as far north as Peru and Brazil.
Status: Lower risk per the 2000 IUCN Red List. The population is in decline and close to vulnerable.
