Rockhopper (Eudyptes chrysome)
Group:Crested
Other group members: Fiordland, Snares, Erect-Crested, Macaroni, Royal
Distribution: The smallest of the crested penguins, rockhoppers have the widest distribution of the group because of their tolerance for varying temperatures. They can be found throughout sub-Antarctic regions on Cape Horn in South America, the Falkland Islands, the Auckland and Antipodes islands, and the Gough and Amsterdam islands.
Status: Vulnerable per the 2000 IUCN Red List. Crested penguins face a high risk of extinction, if current population declines persist.
