My cat, Gizmo, is still alive and well, and now he's 9 years old. It's hard to
believe it was seven years ago when we almost lost him.
Gizmo was only 2 years old at the time. He is blind in his right eye from an injury when he was just 6
weeks old. He was raised by an old black Lab we had and was never taught how to jump the fence and leave
the yard. He NEVER left our yard. Well, one evening just as it was getting dark I went outside to bring
him in. He always came when you called him. No response for hours. We searched the neighborhood for two days.
Our oldest daughter Jessica went to search the Humane Society and saw a notice posted by the "Pet Hunters."
We contacted Kat Albrecht and set up an appointment for her and her dog to come over the next day. All of
the equipment was very impressive and it made so much sense how Kat approached the search. She was so logical.
They gave Rachel (her dog) some of Gizmo's favorite toys and his bed to smell. I think Kat said, "Smell the kitty, find
the kitty," and off she and Rachel went. The way she circled the yard, she could have been following Gizmo's favorite path.
Then Rachel moved on to the neighbors' yard and then to the fence of the next neighbors' yard. This yard has always looked like
a forest with many trees and bushes. In their back yard under a huge bush was an old bathtub with Gizmo
in it. Our daughter Vanessa reached in and snatched him up before he could attack Rachel. This cat thinks
he's a dog and doesn't run from them. He still thinks the same way and still NEVER leaves our yard. We will
always be grateful to Kat and Rachel for finding Gizmo.
