Mother cares for baby

Wolong’s breeding center staff keeps a constant eye on a bank of 10 cameras during cubbing season (imagine watching and waiting for Tai Shan times 10). The color monitor on the right shows a first-time mother caring for her newborn cub. Like Mei Xiang, this panda’s maternal instincts kicked in immediately after the birth. She cradles the cub under her chin. Some of the other panda mothers visible on the screens already have their cubs; others have not yet given birth.
