Panda incubator
Pictures: DCI |

Until they grow enough fur to maintain their body temperature, young cubs are fed inside the incubator. This 2-week-old cub belongs to Hua Mei, the first giant panda born in the United States, at the San Diego Zoo. She gave birth to her second set of twins after returning to Wolong in 2002. The nursery staff follows a precise protocol for every cub. Each cub is cleaned, stimulated to urinate and defecate, and bottle fed. The whole process takes just minutes.
