"This September I started college, which is really great, but I haven't been able to ride Chagall as much as I need to. This will be my last year competing for the Maclay, so I really want to do well. I just hope Chagall and I can pull it together in time." -- Natalie
NATALIE JOHNSON, 19. Beginning the season as an 18-year-old, it is the final year Natalie can attempt to win the Maclay Medal. She placed first in her regional final last year, but then fell prey to the "Maclay curse" – no regional final winner has ever won the championship. Natalie has six horses of her own, but it will be Chagall, a 13-year-old seal bay Holsteiner gelding, that she hopes will carry her to Maclay gold. Natalie also has a big heart – she donates her prize money to JustWorld International, which distributes the funds to children in need around the world. This year will be Natalie’s first at college in New York City – can she still compete at such a high level with the additional workload and lifestyle change?
