"Winning the Maclay would be the biggest thrill of my life!" -- Maria

MARIA SCHAUB, 16. When Maria's father Art took his 5-year-old riding on a boring Sunday afternoon, he quickly realized that it was the beginning of a serious passion for his daughter. Now, Art and Maria’s mom, Angela, shake their heads ruefully – if only they’d known what they were getting into! Maria started formal equestrian training when she was almost 9. Maria is crushed that her own horse Whimsey, an 11-year-old Dutch warmblood, is recovering from an injury. Maria's trainer Frank will help her secure a horse to ride during the Maclay finals, a 12-year-old Rheinlander named Amigo.   But Amigo is for sale, and she could lose him at any moment.
