"My horse L.V. is my pride and joy. I've had him for three years. He is a great athlete. We just mesh so beautifully. I think that's part of the reason I do so well with him -- because we are a great team. He is my best friend." -- Lindsay
LINDSAY SMITH, 17. Lindsay hails from rural Maryland, where she lives on a farm that has been in her family for five generations. Lindsay jumped on her first pony when she was 4 years old and has never jumped off. Her doting parents, Sherri and Tom, operate a greenhouse growing business to support Lindsay and her lovable horse L.V., a 10-year-old Hanoverian, who has been with her for three years and is a bona fide member of the family. Although Lindsay is a long shot for the Maclay Medal, with her determination, L.V. and the encouragement of her two world-class trainers, Kim Williams and Kim Prince, she just might make it. Wise beyond her years, Lindsay has learned to manage her time amazingly well. She is an honor student at an all-girls catholic school. Unlike most riders at the elite level, she attends class five days a week. When she is not in class, riding L.V. or babysitting, Lindsay competes at the national level in 4-H, showing her hogs and heifers. This will be the last year that Lindsay competes in junior equitation. At the start of the new year she is switching her focus to the jumpers with her new horse Goose, and hopes to eventually compete at the Grand Prix level. In the fall Lindsay will attend Texas A&M on a full equestrian scholarship.
