Winnie left her job as an emergency room tech to devote her life to helping exotics, farm animals and wild animals. She built an animal rescue center called Creature Safe Place with nothing more than hard work and word-of-mouth donations. She rehabilitates wild animals so they can be returned back to the wild. She gives a home to injured and abandoned exotic and farm animals. My 95-year-old mother and I became foster parents for baby squirrels after hearing her speak at the Treasure Coast Exotic Bird Club meeting. We were impressed by her self-sacrifice to help animals. Creature Safe Place is not fancy. It receives donations and food from local grocery stores and individuals who have heard of Winnie's work. She has involved local Boy Scouts and other teens to help build shelters for the animals. A local veterinarian volunteers his time to help with the more severely injured animals. Because of Winnie's simple but passionate life dedicated to the care of animals, people feel compelled to help. She never says no to someone calling with a found injured animal.
