![]() Top 10 NomineesTracy Land has dedicated her life to prevent cruelty, neglect, and needless deaths by fighting overpopulation through spaying and neutering pets. She began working with the local no-kill shelter when she was only sixteen. After receiving her veterinary doctorate in 1987, she opened a small animal practice, but was still frustrated with the number of pets that were being euthanized in our local shelters. In 1996, she began Project Spay/Neuter to provide low-cost sterilization for low-income families. Since then she and her staff have performed over 55,000 spays and neuters at or below cost. That calculates to over half a million pets saved by not allowing reproduction!
