 Top 10 NomineesKaren Shirk is a person of incredible compassion and heart. After being rejected for a service dog herself, she started an organization called '4 Paws for Ability' (4pawsforability.org) which trains service dogs for people with disabilities. This woman is truly inspiring. She rescues shelter dogs and gives them a second chance at life through service in a loving home. She and her staff train these wonderful animals through love and caring and are amazing at what they do! To date, she has placed more than 250 dogs with partners as service dogs or in-home companion dogs. When a family applies for a service dog, Karen does her best to make sure that the family can care for the dog in the manner which she deems acceptable and will accept nothing less than the best for her dogs. The love she has toward these dogs is unwavering and it inspires others to want to help in her cause. Her actions have impacted the lives of so many families in the US and soon, overseas. If anyone is a hero to animals and people, it is definitely Karen Shirk! |
