![]() Top 10 NomineesJaye Perrett was a Deputy Sheriff / Head of Animal Cruelty in Florida for 32 years. Her career ended when she lost part of her leg saving a dog's life. According to a National Geographic special featuring Jaye, she has been responsible for more animal cruelty arrests than all other law enforcement officers in the U.S. combined. She now runs a big cat sanctuary called EARS INC (bigcatsanctuary.org). EARS has 63 Lions, Tigers, Leopards and more. Jaye also bids on huge lots of meat at reduced rates and then delivers it to other exotic sanctuaries from the Everglades to Northern VA and as far west as Texas. Jaye's sanctuary co-op is responsible for many tigers not being euthanized due to lack of food. Jaye also rescued, housed and cared for 300 animals affected by Hurricane Katrina. She located and reunited many of these animals with their original owners, many were adopted to loving homes and the un-adoptable ones returned to EARS with Jaye. During hunting season, Jaye goes into the Ocala National Forest to check the pens, placed there for found hunting dogs. Jaye feeds and waters these animals and tries to locate the owners. Jaye is nominated by Joanne Strinka who says, "No one is more deserving of this honor than Jaye Perrett. I personally run a Wolf Rescue and know hundreds of animal people around the country. No one is more committed to animals than Jaye." |
