![]() More NomineesJody is at the top of my list of ordinary people who do extraordinary things. For this reason, she is an inspiration to many other "ordinary" people, showing them that one person really can make a difference. She has converted her home into a feline adoption center. Her garage houses adult cats, sometimes up to 15 cats at a time, and a spare bedroom houses kittens and younger cats, sometimes up to an additional 15 at a time. She runs an ad in the local newspaper advertising the adoption of these cats at a reduced rate so that she may find homes for them as quickly as possible. The cats come from a variety of places, but mostly from the shelter that I manage, the Brown County Humane Society (BCHS) in Indiana. Jody medicates the cats when they are sick, comforts them when they are upset or lonely and find homes for them when it seems no one else cares. She spends a lot of her own personal time and finances caring and finding homes for these cats. Single handedly, Jody finds homes for 300 cats a year (200 from BCHS) and has helped keep our adoption rate for cats at a staggering 85% in an area of high animal overpopulation and euthanasia. We don't know what we would do without her! She has proven to us that with a little effort and a lot of heart, you CAN find homes for them all. |
