In 1993, Faye helped form Community Animal Programs (CAP). A founding member, Faye served on the Board of Directors, was Fundraiser Chair, did extensive rescue work and arranged spay/neuter assistance for local residents. Meanwhile Faye was enduring her own life and death battles against three different forms of cancer. Through all this, Faye's devotion to easing the pain and suffering of animals never wavered.
Still a valuable community resource, CAP has found homes for hundreds of animals. After 10 years with CAP, Faye helped form Helping Animals Live Organization. HALO purchased a house in Little Falls, NY in 2006. Called HALO House, it provides a cage free, no-kill sanctuary to over 100 cats. Despite daily "house duty" caring for the cats, rescue work, transporting cats to the vet, organizing fundraisers and adoption clinics, all while working part-time and keeping an eye on her own health, Faye maintains a positive attitude in difficult circumstances.
Nominator Barbara Wilson says, "Faye is an inspiration to others. A founder of two rescue groups, President of HALO, Faye Bunk has saved thousands of lives. Never receiving a dime in compensation, Faye digs into her own pockets to care for HALO's rescues. Her devotion to helping animals is total and she gives without reservation of her time, her money and herself."
