American Alligator

Scientific Name: Alligator mississippiensis
Location: Southeastern United States
Habitat: Wetlands, rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, marshes and swamps
Length: 9 to 16 feet
Weight: Varies
Diet: Feeds off all animals in its habitat, including birds from lower branches
Special Interest:
This powerful reptile has a large fourth tooth located in a socket in its upper jaw. Just like the giant croc relied on its large teeth to restrain prey, the alligator uses this tooth to hold on to its next meal.
