Komodo Dragon

Scientific Name: Varanus komodoensis
Location: Indonesia
Habitat: Grasslands, open fields, savannas
Length: 6 to 9 feet
Weight: 200 and 350 pounds
Diet: Goats, wild pigs, rats and deer
Special Interest:
The Komodo dragon's tail makes up half its body length, while the rest of its body houses a long neck, sharp claws and 52 razor-sharp serrated teeth. Those teeth come in handy, since the Komodo relies on them to pin prey quickly. Even though Komodo dragons have short legs, they are excellent swimmers and can run up to 35 mph, albeit for short distances. To date, this mighty dragon is the largest, most powerful lizard on Earth ... much like its ancestor, the Megalania, during the Pleistocene epoch.
