AKC/Eukanuba National Championship

More Breed Tours

A lot of poking and prodding goes on at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, but what's it all about?

It may look like a high-profile vet checkup, but the judges are actually looking for specific traits that characterize each of the many breeds that make up a dog show. Old English sheepdogs, for example, must stand lower at the shoulder than the hip, while the reverse is true for German shepherds.

Find out what the judges are looking for at this year's AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. Choose your pooch from the seven breeds below — all winners of the 2005 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship — and take a part-by-part tour of its unique anatomy.

Special thanks to the American Kennel Club for providing its breed standard information.
