Choosing a dog strictly as a pet can be a complicated decision. The most important questions to ask yourself involve lifestyle issues. What kind of schedule do you have? Do you live in an apartment or a house with a huge yard? How much room will your dog need to be comfortable? What kind of commitment can you make for grooming and training? How much time can you spend with your four-legged friend? Can you afford health care for your dog?

Deciding to buy a dog to show throws a lot of new questions into the mix. In addition to the lifestyle compatibility issues, is the dog cut out to be a winner? Is it a good example of the breed, both in its physical makeup and temperament? Is it eligible for AKC registration? Is the breeder reputable?
