Selecting a Breeder![]()
Once you've decided on the right breed for you, the next step is to find an appropriate breeder. The breeder must have a good reputation as a responsible breeder. It is extremely important for them to maintain safe, healthy conditions for their dogs. Breeders should also have an intimate knowledge of the standards for the breeds that they are raising, doing their best to maintain a high level of conformity while staying aware of any genetic defects that are common to the breed. Ask a lot of questions. The breeder should also interview you to make sure you will be a good fit for the dog. Get to know the breeder and how they operate their business. Do they enjoy their work? Do the dogs seem healthy and properly socialized? What is the guarantee on the health of the dogs? Will papers be provided? Were the sire and dam champions? There should be an open dialogue between you and the breeder to help you both make an educated decision about the future of the new puppy.
